Dental Care Tips

  • Proper dental care begins even before a baby's first tooth appears. At birth your baby has 20 primary teeth, some of which are fully developed in the jaw. So try to keep away from the juices and high sugar products.
  • The American Dental Association (ADA) recommends that a child's first visit to the dentist take place by the first birthday.
  • Brushing at least twice a day and routine flossing will help maintain a healthy mouth
  • Kids as young as age 2 or 3 can begin to use toothpaste when brushing, as long as they are supervised.
  • Send healthy snacks to school with your child like raw vegetables, fruit, or pickles.
  • Don’t use toothpaste for children under 2.
  • Teach proper brushing techniques. At age 6 or 7 most children can brush their own teeth.
  • Make sure your child flosses twice a day!
  • Take an active role in your child’s oral health by teaching by example. Brush and floss with your child to show them that you take pride in your smile.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • At night, put your little down with H2O instead of juice which can decay teeth.
